Fraud methods are becoming more diverse, and operators are fighting against them daily. In 2025, DNA prevented over 8.5 million fraud attempts. The company blocked over 4.2 million fraudulent calls and nearly 4.4 million fraudulent text messages last year. Operators and banks implemented a new cooperation model last year that allows for the rapid shutdown of internet traffic to fraudulent websites. This collaboration aims to reduce the impact of fraudulent messages.

DNA prevented over 4.2 million fraudulent calls and nearly 4.4 million fraudulent text messages last year.

"During 2025, the themes of fraud were marked by data leaks and their exploitation. Victims of fraud lost significant amounts of money, even though operators and banks took considerable steps to mitigate damages. At DNA, we prevented over 8.5 million fraud attempts, including fraudulent calls and text messages, last year," says Ilkka Tuominen, DNA's Fraud Prevention Manager.

Raising awareness of various types of fraud is essential so that people can approach incoming messages and calls with sufficient skepticism. Fraudsters personalize their outreach and adapt the content of scams based on data leak themes, as well as different seasons and holidays, which requires vigilance from recipients.

"Passwords and banking credentials must not be shared, and the senders of messages and links should be verified before clicking. It's also important to note that fraudsters exploit current phenomena, such as tax refund days, sales events, or the upcoming Valentine's Day. The online shopping and parcel traffic during gift seasons also activates fraudsters," Tuominen reminds.

Last year, operators, banks, and authorities implemented a new cooperation model that allows for the interruption of traffic to fraudulent websites within minutes. Thanks to this collaboration, DNA, Elisa, and Telia can block traffic to fraud sites based on data collected by banks much faster than before. This cooperation complicates the operations of fraudsters.

"Thanks to our collaboration, we can cut off traffic to fraudulent websites very quickly without having to wait for server maintenance to address the websites' functionality. This reduces the harmfulness of messages that manage to get through the defenses," Tuominen explains.

Preventing cybercrime requires cooperation. Since 2023, operators have blocked the free use of Finnish mobile numbers from foreign calls to Finland, resulting in an increasing number of fraudulent calls coming from foreign area codes. In fraudulent text messages, scammers use fraudulent links or numbers from SIM cards they control. Organizations and businesses can obtain exclusive use of their sender ID and protect it by registering with Traficom’s "SMS Sender ID" registry.

DNA sends text messages only using three registered sender IDs: DNA, DNA Kauppa, and DNABusiness. The first two are intended for consumer communication, while the latter is for business customer communication. Registering sender IDs ensures that customers can trust that the message is genuinely from DNA. Others cannot use the same sender ID.

Ensi viikolle on luvattu pakkasta.
