Ferris työskenteli viimeksi terveydenhuoltojohtajana Red Cell Partnersissa, joka on teknologiayrityshautomo ja sijoitusyhtiö. Sitä ennen hän työskenteli Yhdistyneen kuningaskunnan NHS-terveydenhuoltojärjestelmän kansallisena muutosjohtajana. Tässä roolissa hän hallinnoi 2,5 miljardin dollarin budjettia ja johti mittavaa etulinjan digitalisaation edistämishanketta. Ennen uraauurtavaa rooliaan NHS:ssä Ferris toimi Massachusettsin yleislääkärijärjestön toimitusjohtajana ja puheenjohtajana sekä Mass General Brighamissa väestönterveydestä vastaavana vanhempana varapääjohtajana. Hänen alaisuudessaan työskenteli näissä tehtävissä 3 000 lääkäriä.
