Amos Rex summer 2026 invites visitors to dance on the square and discover Helsinki’s hidden layers
21.5.2026 14:43:23 EEST | Amos Rex | Press release
This summer at Amos Rex, visitors can dance to music from their own phones as Dansbana! transforms Lasipalatsi Square into an open-air dance floor. From late May onwards, the Amos Rex museum shop will feature SS26 SPACE by Minttu Vesala, with a curated selection of clothing, accessories and objects by Finnish designers. Later in the season, artist EGS takes over Helsinki with a project that turns the city into an alternative exhibition space.

SS26 SPACE by Minttu Vesala 29 May–6 September 2026
Amos Rex museum shop has been transformed into a sales gallery, SS26 SPACE by Minttu Vesala, focusing on Finnish fashion. The space offers carefully selected fashion pieces, styling gems, obscure objects, and bold natural cosmetics from Finnish designers.
The curated sales gallery also acts as a community stage for special events, and its reading corner carries a selection of magazines and books highlighting art, fashion, and queer culture. All products sold in the shop have been curated by Minttu Vesala.
Minttu Vesala is an internationally acclaimed creative artist working at the intersection of fashion, art, and visual commerce, whose work has helped shape the Scandinavian fashion scene.
Dansbana! 12 June–4 October 2026
Lasipalatsi Square transforms into a space for dance, movement, and community through Dansbana!, created by the Swedish organisation founded by architects Anna Fridolin, Anna Pang, and Teres Selberg. Dansbana! is free and open to everyone. Visitors can spontaneously dance and play music through Bluetooth speakers or reserve a time slot. Dancers and dance styles of all kinds are welcome!
The project continues the Swedish-Finnish tradition of open-air dance pavilions (known in Finnish as lavatanssit), which have long served as important meeting places for dance, community, and sometimes romance. During June and August, Amos Rex will host eleven dance performances and three traditional dance pavilion events.
The almost pond-like dance floor by the Amos Rex mounds is surrounded by three large plant-like figures, who are making sure you never have to dance alone.
sitting.waiting.walking. Night of the Arts 20 August 2026
sitting.waiting.walking. is an interdisciplinary performance exploring trauma through humor and rituals across eight acts. A diverse range of artists — including lipsync artists, singers, actors, and dancers — interact with a sound installation: loudspeakers hidden inside a human-like sculpture playing a forty-minute audio loop.
Each act involves young Nordic artists who react, build, and create new performative situations. The first two acts are made specifically for Amos Rex. Registration for the performances will open later this summer.
The Secret Capital of EGS 29 August–30 September 2026
The Secret Capital of EGS is a collaborative project between Amos Rex and Finnish artist EGS.
The work consists of a map drawn by EGS and a narrative universe built around it. Six locations are marked on the map, each connected to its own story told through video content and, in some cases, physical artworks.
From the many layers of Helsinki, lost memories, subcultures, rumors, and legends emerge alongside real historical events and people. The city becomes both a stage and a map where reality and imagination intertwine: What happened here, what could happen here, and what is happening fifteen meters beneath us?
EGS is a Finnish contemporary artist whose practice is rooted in graffiti, exploring themes of identity, place, and movement through painting, sculpture, and installation.
