President Stubb to attend NATO Summit in Ankara

President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb will attend the NATO Summit in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye, on 7–8 July 2026.

The main themes of the summit are monitoring the implementation of the defence investment commitment agreed at last year’s NATO Summit in The Hague, as well as other decisions taken at the summit, support for Ukraine, and strengthening the defence industrial base in response to the long-term threat posed by Russia. The summit will underscore the commitment of European Allies to assume greater responsibility for the security of the continent. Finland’s objective is that the decisions taken at the summit will reinforce NATO’s unity and ensure continued support for Ukraine.

On Tuesday 7 July, President Stubb’s programme includes the NATO Defence Industry Forum, where he will take part in a panel discussion on whole-of-society industrial preparedness. In the evening, President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his spouse Emine Erdoğan will host a dinner for the participants of the summit.

On Wednesday 8 July, President Stubb will attend a meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of Heads of State and Government, bringing together all NATO Allies.

The President's programme also comprises several bilateral meetings.

Mrs Suzanne Innes-Stubb, spouse of the President of the Republic, will participate in the spouse programme and the dinner.

The summit delegation, led by President Stubb, will include Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen and Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen. Their programme features ministerial-level working dinners and bilateral meetings.

This is Finland's fourth summit as a NATO member. Last year, the summit was held in The Hague, the Netherlands.
