St1 Biokraft expands into Denmark with Danish Bio Commodities acquisition
30.6.2026 14:00:00 EEST | St1 | Press release
St1 Biokraft, a leading Nordic biomethane player, has signed an agreement to acquire Danish Bio Commodities (DBC), a Denmark-based biogas and biomethane company. The transaction adds more than 350 GWh of production capacity and approximately 900 GWh in the development pipeline, establishes St1 Biokraft in Denmark and marks an important step in the company’s Nordic growth journey.

DBC has established a strong position in the Danish biogas market through its production assets, development pipeline and commercial capabilities, including biomass sourcing, certificate trading and technical services. Denmark is one of Europe's most advanced biomethane markets, with established infrastructure and favourable long-term fundamentals.
“I am very pleased to announce this acquisition, which marks an important step in building St1 Biokraft into the leading biomethane company in the Nordics. DBC brings an established local platform with an experienced team and Danish market expertise. Combined with our existing operations, this strengthens our ability to scale production, broaden our customer offering and continue our growth in Denmark. We are delighted to welcome our new Danish colleagues to St1 Biokraft as we take the next step in our growth journey together,” says Miika Johansson, CEO of St1 Biokraft.
The transaction includes five production assets, four wholly owned and a 25% stake in a fifth, alongside a development pipeline of six greenfield biomethane projects.
"DBC has built a strong platform in Denmark, and we are pleased to become part of St1 Biokraft. This creates good opportunities to further develop the business and build on our established capabilities," says Rune Ledgaard Sørensen, CEO of DBC.
Vestjyllands Andel, one of the founding shareholders of DBC, sees the transaction as an important step in supporting the company's continued growth while reaffirming its long-term commitment to the biogas sector.
"We are proud of what DBC has achieved, and we believe St1 Biokraft is the right partner to take the company into its next phase of growth. We look forward to exploring opportunities to reinvest alongside St1 Biokraft and continue creating long-term value for our owners and for Danish agriculture," says Steen Bitsch, CEO of Vestjyllands Andel and Chairman of the Board of DBC.
The acquisition strengthens St1 Biokraft's capabilities across the value chain and expands its footprint into a strategically important market. It supports the company's long-term ambition of reaching 3 TWh of own biomethane production and 6 TWh of biomethane sales by 2030.
Today, St1 Biokraft operates 12 production and upgrading facilities in Sweden and Norway with targeted production of approximately 750 GWh for 2026, has two production facilities under construction in Finland through the joint venture Suomen Lantakaasu, and owns an expanding network of more than 70 refuelling stations and bus depots.
The acquisition remains subject to approval from relevant authorities and is expected to close once these approvals have been obtained.
St1 Biokraft was advised by ING (M&A), BAHR (Legal), EY (Financial and tax), Niras (technical), and Marsh (insurance). DBC was advised by Deloitte (M&A), Plesner (Legal), and PwC (Financial and tax).
