DNA Plc’s Business Review for April–June 2026: Steady development continued in a highly competitive market environment
16.7.2026 08:30:00 EEST | DNA Oyj | Press release
Considering the intense competitive landscape, the second quarter of the current year was financially quite strong for DNA. During April–June, revenue remained nearly at the same level as in the corresponding period last year. EBITDA increased, particularly when taking into account the transfer of DNA’s IoT business to another Telenor Group company at the beginning of the year. The number of fixed broadband and mobile network subscriptions increased, while their average revenue per user declined slightly.

CEO’s review
DNA’s operating environment remained volatile during the second quarter, although there were also cautious signs of an improvement in the Finnish economy. According to the Bank of Finland, the emerging economic recovery is expected to gradually strengthen. At the same time, however, rising energy costs, geopolitical uncertainty, high unemployment and cautious consumer demand continued to challenge the market. Competition in the telecommunications market remained intense, particularly in the Consumer Business.
Despite the challenging operating environment and continued intense competition, DNA performed quite well financially during the second quarter of the year. In April–June, DNA’s revenue remained stable compared to the corresponding period and amounted to EUR 277 million (277). Service revenue decreased by 1% to EUR 219 million (221). EBITDA increased by 1% to EUR 112 million (111). Taking into account the transfer of DNA’s IoT business to Telenor Connexion at the beginning of 2026, as well as one-off adjustments made during 2025, comparable service revenue remained stable and EBITDA before other expenses increased by 5%. The number of mobile subscriptions increased to 2,813,000 (2,812,000), while ARPU decreased to EUR 19.6 (19.9). The number of fixed broadband subscriptions increased to 710,000 (700,000), while ARPU declined to EUR 16.7 (17.3). The number of TV subscriptions decreased as expected.
During the second quarter, we continued our work to promote secure digital services. We introduced the new DNA Numerovahti service for both consumer and corporate mobile subscriptions. The service helps identify scam calls and mass calling at the subscription level. On International Password Day in May, we sought to raise awareness that passwords remain one of the most important – yet also one of the most vulnerable – means of digital protection. The risks associated with weak and reused passwords continue to increase, and a short, hard-to-remember password alone is no longer sufficient to protect users.
We strengthened our service offering for businesses by launching the DNA Smart Office service and expanding the DNA Vaihdepalvelu (Switchboard) Service with AI-powered functionalities. DNA also won the City of Oulu’s tender for telecommunications services covering regional networks and internet connections. In the Consumer Business, we launched the DNA Vaivaton service during the review period, enabling customers to acquire internet devices through a monthly fee without any upfront investment. In addition, we renewed our consumer subscription portfolio by introducing the new DNA Huoleton Plus subscriptions.
Finnish companies have been able to apply for SMS Sender ID protection, i.e. an exclusive right to use a sender ID, since November 2023 under a regulation issued by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom. In May 2026, operators' obligations regarding sender identification were expanded, requiring all sender IDs that are not protected by exclusive rights to be authorised by mobile operators. Since 4 May, messages sent using sender IDs that are neither protected nor authorised have been labelled as unknown, and from November onwards they will be marked as spam. The change improves the reliability of communications, strengthens consumer protection and makes it more difficult to send fraudulent and phishing messages.
In June, DNA updated its recommendation regarding the minimum age for smartphones for children and young people. The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) does not recommend smartphones at all for children under the age of 13. If a phone is acquired for a child aged 6–13, a device with only limited functionalities, such as calling and messaging, is recommended. DNA supports these national digital recommendations issued by THL.
In May, the Family Federation of Finland renewed DNA’s Family-Friendly Workplace recognition for the third time. We remain the only large company in Finland to have received this recognition. The achievement is based on our long-term efforts to improve the balance between work and personal life, including in the later stages of working careers. We introduced paid grandparental leave already in 2017, and in 2026 we reached a significant milestone when this leave had been used 100 times at DNA. We believe that the wellbeing of our employees throughout all stages of their careers is also directly reflected in the services we provide and, consequently, in customer satisfaction.

Review of Consumer and Corporate Business
In the Consumer Business, during the second quarter, we continued to develop both our entertainment and cybersecurity services with solutions designed to make our customers’ everyday lives easier. In April, we expanded our streaming offering by adding HBO Max to DNA’s selection. In May, we introduced a beta version of DNA Viihde Apuri (Entertainment Assistant) for TV use by DNA viihdeboksi (Entertainment Box) customers. It is a new AI-powered entertainment assistant designed to help users discover content and access support.
At the end of May, we launched the DNA Vaivaton service, making the acquisition of internet devices easier, more flexible and more carefree. The service model enables customers to use internet devices for a monthly fee without any upfront investment or device-related concerns. In the first phase, the service covers new WiFi 7 routers.
Growing demand for children’s smartwatch phones was reflected in our sales statistics during the second quarter. The development reflects changing choices among families. An increasing number of parents are postponing the purchase of their child’s first smartphone and opting for a smartwatch phone instead. According to our annual School Survey published in April, 36% of parents of children aged 5–12 had acquired a smartwatch phone as their child’s first device (16% in 2025).
In June, we launched the new DNA Huoleton Plus subscriptions. The new subscriptions include the DNA Numerovahti service, which identifies scam calls and disruptive mass calling without requiring a separate application and regardless of the customer’s device brand. The service helps determine whether a call from an unknown number may be a scam or mass call and notifies the customer via an on-screen alert. The new DNA Huoleton Plus subscriptions also include secure web browsing.
In the Corporate Business, the market situation has at times been challenged by weak overall economic development in Finland. Companies are assessing their investments more carefully, while geopolitical tensions have increased costs and inflationary pressures. Semiconductor availability issues have affected technology deliveries. At the same time, however, our customers have increased their investments particularly in business continuity, security, artificial intelligence and resilience. We have therefore expanded our service portfolio for businesses and introduced new solutions for our corporate customers. This has increased the share of customers using a broad portfolio of services.
In April, we announced that we would become the first operator in the Nordic countries to offer Google Firebase Phone Number Verification (PNV). The service verifies a mobile subscription user’s phone number directly through the operator. We also took corporate reachability and voice services to the next level by expanding the DNA Vaihdepalvelu (Switchboard) Service with AI functionalities. New features include automatic caller identification, CRM integrations, and AI-generated call summaries and voice announcements.
In May, we announced the launch of the DNA Smart Office service, designed to simplify workplace management for small and medium-sized enterprises. The service provides a modern working environment based on the Google Workspace platform and covers deployment, administration, security and maintenance according to the service package selected by the customer. At the end of May, we announced that, as the only operator, we would introduce the new DNA Numerovahti service for DNA Business Varma subscriptions. The service identifies scam calls and mass calling. Corporate customers can also purchase the service as a separate monthly add-on for their subscriptions.
In June, we announced that the City of Oulu had selected DNA as the provider of its regional network and internet connectivity services. The objective of the cooperation is to ensure reliable and scalable telecommunications connections. At the same time, we are investing in connectivity in the Oulu region and expanding our fibre connections in the area.
In addition, we have continued to invest more broadly in our fibre network, strengthening our ability to provide solutions that safeguard business continuity across all customer segments. The development of the data centre market has created entirely new opportunities to leverage our network. Our digital solutions, including AI-powered capabilities, play a key role in supporting customers’ productivity, growth, profitability, renewal and resilience.

- EBITDA, service revenues, total revenues and, consequently, the average mobile ARPU are negatively affected for the full year by one-off adjustments made in 2025 and by the sale of the IoT business to Telenor Connexion at the beginning of 2026.
- Capex excl. licenses and spectrum and IFRS 16.
- Postpaid, prepaid, mobile home phone (“Luuri”) and mobile broadband subscriptions
- ARPU = Average Revenue Per User = Monthly subscription revenues and traffic revenues + interconnection / average number of subscriptions.

Moni ongelmista ratkeaa kuitenkin jo yksinkertaisilla toimenpiteillä, joista helpoin on modeemin uudelleenkäynnistys.

Although problems occur most commonly with home internet connections, slow or non-functioning connections at summer cottages also cause headaches for some users. However, many of these problems can be solved with simple measures, the easiest of which is restarting the modem.
