Finnish technology company ProVerse Interactive Oy, along with its local representative in India, Routa Digital India Private Limited, has been selected to deliver a Proof of Concept (PoC) project for mine digitalisation to Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), one of India's leading state-owned mining companies. The project will show how digital twins, immersive XR training, real-time monitoring and advanced positioning can make mining operations safer, more efficient and better connected.

Helsinki / Kolkata  – The PoC project is a significant milestone in the partnership between ProVerse Interactive and Hindustan Copper. It is the first concrete step toward mine digitalisation, a priority identified when the Indian and Finnish Prime Ministers met during the global AI Summit in Delhi in February 2026. The project creates a digital twin of a selected mine area and combines workforce training, safety-focused situational awareness and intelligent operational support in practical use cases.

A digital foundation for safer, smarter mining

The digital twin enables multi-user XR training, allowing employees to rehearse safety procedures in realistic mine conditions before entering the operational environment. At the same time, the platform demonstrates the benefits of real-time monitoring in day-to-day mining operations.

The solution also delivers situational awareness by bringing positioning technologies, camera systems and the mine's existing data streams together on a single platform. It uses bidirectional Ultra Wideband (UWB) positioning and AI-powered computer vision to provide real-time visibility of personnel and assets, supporting safer daily operations.

The project also lays the groundwork for future capabilities, including operator guidance, remote control, AI-assisted monitoring, predictive data analysis and autonomous systems. In doing so, it advances the mining industry's wider digital transformation.

A deepening Finland and India partnership

"We look forward to working with an innovative Finnish company like ProVerse, whose cutting-edge digitalisation technology and platform will help make our mining operations safer and more secure, while giving us a clear view of our mines' past, present and future development," said Sanjiv Singh, Chairman of Hindustan Copper.

"India is one of the most exciting growth markets for industrial digitalisation. We are delighted to deepen our collaboration with Hindustan Copper and show how digital twins, immersive training, real-time data and situational awareness can shape the future of mining in India," said Kalle Salminen, Chairman of ProVerse Interactive.

"Routa Digital is pleased to support ProVerse as its local representative in India for this important engagement with Hindustan Copper. We believe this Proof of Concept (PoC) can create a strong foundation for safer, smarter and more connected mining operations in India," said Kumar Abhijit, CEO of Routa Digital India.

The project reflects the deepening cooperation between Finnish technology companies and Indian industry, as both countries strengthen their economic and innovation ties under the EU and India Free Trade Agreement signed in January 2026. The agreement has been called "the mother of all deals." The project also follows directly from Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's visit to India in February 2026, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and brought a large business delegation. Together, these developments point to growing opportunities for collaboration between Finnish technology providers and major Indian industrial companies.

By uniting digital twins, immersive XR training, real-time monitoring, advanced positioning and historical data on a single platform, the project shows how modern digital solutions can improve safety, operational efficiency and decision-making, while strengthening the mining sector's global competitiveness in the years ahead.
