Invitation to press conference on 4 August at 10 a.m.: Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority’s statement on the operating licence application of Posiva Oy’s final disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel

Finland is the first country in the world where final disposal of spent nuclear fuel is so close to realisation. The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority will submit its statement on the operating licence application to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland. The operating licence is granted by the Government, which cannot make its decision without a statement from the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority.

At the press conference, we will explain the content and grounds of the safety assessment and statement prepared by the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority. We will also explain what the start of final disposal at Olkiluoto in Eurajoki would mean for radiation safety in the near future and over tens of thousands of years.

The presentations at the press conference will be given in Finnish. After the presentations, media representatives will be able to ask questions and, at the end of the event, interview the experts in Finnish, Swedish and English.

The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority will not livestream the event online. However, media representatives may livestream the event on their own channels.

Media representatives are asked to note that proof of identity (identity card, passport, driving licence, etc.) is required to enter our premises.
