Childbirth services move from Espoo Hospital to Jorvi Hospital’s ward building on September 1, 2026, at 9 a.m. Jorvi Hospital is located at the address Karvasmäentie 8 and its main entrance is on street level. The easiest place to park when arriving to Jorvi Hospital is the P1 parking garage, which is located below Espoo Hospital. Drop-off traffic to the main entrance is allowed.

Until September 1, childbirth services continue at Espoo Hospital, and the unit can be accessed through Espoo Hospital's main entrance. The labor unit in Espoo Hospital will not admit new patients after 9 a.m. on September 1.

New, family-friendly facilities

Everyone giving birth will receive excellent, high-quality care in the new, patient-centered facilities with 12 delivery rooms. A birthing pool is available for 11 of those rooms. The delivery rooms are spacious and designed with the needs of the people giving birth in mind. For example, all rooms have yoga hammocks and exercise balls.

There are also six induction rooms, which allow handling the increasing number of childbirth inductions in appropriate facilities. The new unit includes five observation rooms, which are planned for the obstetric emergency department especially.

The labor unit has its own operating rooms and a recovery room. The aim is for nearly all postnatal observation to take place in the family recovery room, where the parent and the baby are treated together, and the birthing partner can also stay with them. Only critically ill people giving birth are transferred elsewhere for further treatment.

Nearly all patient rooms are family rooms. We will also improve cooperation with the pediatric wards. The new facilities allow implementing Couplet Care better than before. The mother and the baby will not be separated unless there is a compelling reason to do so.

The labor unit in Jorvi Hospital is the second busiest in Finland. Last year, the Espoo Hospital Labor Unit handled 4771 childbirths. Jorvi Hospital handles childbirths occurring at gestational week 35 or later.

The Maternity Outpatient Clinic in Jorvi Hospital moves to the ward building during October 5–6, 2026.
