Finavia’s six-month review 1 January–30 June 2026

Financial performance in brief:

4–6/2026

• Finavia's revenue increased by 6.3% and amounted to EUR 110.5 million (104.0).
• The operating result was EUR 11.4 million (2.4), or 10.3% (2.3) of revenue.
• The number of passengers increased by 5.0%. The total number of passengers on scheduled and chartered flights was 5.2 million (5.0), of whom 4.4 million (4.3) flew on international routes.
• The summer travel season had a busy start. The increase in the number of passengers was supported by several new route openings to Finavia’s airports during the summer season.

1–6/2026

• Finavia's revenue increased by 8.9% and amounted to EUR 238.2 million (218.7).
• The operating result was EUR 25.0 million (4.9), or 10.5% (2.3) of revenue.
• The number of passengers increased by 6.4%. The total number of passengers on scheduled and chartered flights was 10.5 million (9.9), of whom 8.5 million (8.0) flew on international routes.
• The growth of Finnish air traffic continued. Helsinki Airport’s position as a transfer airport in traffic between Europe and Asia and between Europe and the Middle East was strengthened with the new long-haul destinations and the number of transfer passengers increased. The number of passengers at airports in Lapland amounted to 1.1 million (1.0) in January–June. The number of passengers increased particularly on international routes.

Finavia’s business operations developed positively in the second quarter. The increase in the number of passengers in the early summer, the good development of commercial operations at airports and the determined improvement of operational efficiency increased our revenue and improved our profitability. Our revenue increased by 6.3 per cent to EUR 110.5 million, and the operating result improved to EUR 11.4 million.

The summer travel season had a busy start. A total of 5.2 million passengers travelled through Finavia's airports in the second quarter of the year, an increase of 5.0 per cent from the reference period. Finavia strengthened Finland’s connectivity together with airlines by actively promoting new route openings and the recovery of flight connections. Helsinki Airport’s route network was expanded, for example, when China Southern Airlines opened a direct Beijing-Helsinki route in March, which is the airline’s only route to the Nordic countries. In May, Finnair opened a connection to Toronto and Qatar Airways resumed its daily route between Helsinki and Doha. During the summer season, Helsinki Airport offered direct connections to nearly 140 destinations around the world. The new and returning routes strengthen the position Helsinki Airport has as an international transit airport.

The number of passengers at Helsinki Airport was 4.6 million in the second quarter of the year, an increase of 4.2 per cent. The summer holiday travel season had a busy start, and the global aviation fuel situation did not significantly affect air traffic in Finland. On the contrary, the first week of June at Helsinki Airport was the busiest week of the year with approximately 378,000 passengers. This is the second highest number of passengers per week at the airport since the COVID-19 pandemic. The new restaurant and shop area in the Schengen gate area, which was opened during the first half of the year, strengthened the airport’s service offering and passenger experience. The smooth passenger experience has also been supported by reliable operations, which was reflected in the very high punctuality of airport operations even during the busiest travel season.

International traffic at tourism-driven airports in Lapland in Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Ivalo and Kuusamo was highlighted in the increase in traffic at network airports. The new international routes for the upcoming winter season, which were announced in the second quarter of the year, strengthen the outlook that Finnish Lapland is increasing its appeal as a tourist attraction. During the review period, we prepared for the winter season by recruiting approximately 460 seasonal employees at the northern airports, which almost doubles Finavia’s and Airpro’s number of employees at Lapland airports for the busiest season.

In accordance with the new strategy, Finavia is actively seeking profitable growth and the continuous improvement of operational efficiency, particularly by utilising new technologies. With the agreement signed in June by Fintraffic, the air traffic control service provider at Finavia's airports, preparations for the transition to the remote air traffic control concept will begin at the airports in Turku, Mariehamn, Vaasa, Ivalo, Kittilä, Kuusamo and Oulu. The new remote air traffic control solution, hich will be introduced gradually in 2030, will increase efficiency and the operational reliability of airports.

In June, Finavia was awarded the ACI EUROPE Digital Transformation Award 2026 in recognition of its pioneering work in the digitalisation of airport operations. The award-winning Airport Operational Status (AOS) system provides a real-time, shareable overview of the airport’s operational situation. A shared overview of the situation improves the efficiency of operations, improves safety and speeds up responses during disruptions. The AOS system is in use at all 20 Finavia airports.

The new operating model of the Commercial and Real Estate Development area has become an established part of Finavia’s operations.  At Helsinki Airport, we continued to renew our passenger services and commercial offering. New restaurants and shops strengthened the passenger experience and grow our business alongside revenue from air traffic. During the review period, we prepared a proposal for Vantaa light rail's final stop in the core area of the airport in cooperation with the Vantaa light rail alliance. Our long-term objective is to enhance the attractiveness of the airport area by integrating the airport’s core area and the nearby Aviapolis district more seamlessly. The City of Vantaa has announced that it will make a decision on the location of the Vantaa Light Rail terminus by the end of 2027.

Finavia’s subsidiary Airpro produces ground services for air traffic operators. During the review period, Airpro’s revenue developed positively, particularly driven by ground handling services, but the result was weaker than last year. Profitability was particularly affected by fluctuations in operating volumes at network airports and the competitive environment. In addition to Helsinki Airport, Airpro operates at 10 network airports.

Our sustainability work is guided by the new sustainability programme published at the beginning of the year, which combines environmental responsibility, social responsibility and good governance even more closely with the company’s strategy and long-term value creation. During the review period, we also piloted the use of hydrogen as an energy source for the airport's vehicles at Helsinki Airport. We will continue to electrify airports, improve energy efficiency and promote low-emission motive power solutions.

Overall, the first half of the year was strong for Finavia. The implementation of our strategy, which was updated in 2025, has started successfully. During the strategy period 2026–2028, we will aim for profitable growth and the continuous improvement of operational efficiency in airport operations serving air traffic. At the same time, we will increase our value creation opportunities in the commercial and real estate business of airports. The successful implementation of the strategy was reflected in the strong development of our business during the review period. The several international awards granted to Finavia during the review period are, above all, evidence of the strong commitment of our personnel and partners operating at our airports to safe and smooth operations and a high-quality customer experience.

Events after the review period

Finavia has previously reported on a claim for adjustment relating to Avia Real Estate Oy’s 2024 taxation. The matter has been resolved in accordance with the company’s claim for adjustment. The positive profit impact arising from the adjustment will be recognized in the Finavia Group’s results for 2026.

Outlook for 2026 (specified on 4 May 2026)

Finavia Group strengthens its previous outlooks and expects its revenue for 2026 to be higher than in 2025. This expectation is based on the current view of the development of air traffic. The operating profit is expected to improve in 2026. Finavia Group expects its revenue for 2026 to be EUR 460–‍490 million and its operating profit to be EUR 40–‍60 million.

The demand for air traffic is anticipated to increase in 2026, but there are still significant uncertainties related to the operating environment. Geopolitical crises, the closure of Russian airspace, the sensitivity of the fuel market and general development of the economy can affect airlines’ route and capacity decisions as well as consumers' and companies' travel demand.
