Classic orchestral works given an electric interpretation in new Re:Sonata concert production

Re:Sonata is an ambitious concert project created by the collaboration between the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and the Classical Trancelations team in which new interpretations bring the most famous themes of orchestral music into the present day. 

Joining the orchestra on stage will be Petri “Lowland” Alanko and Pessi Levanto, whose visionary arrangements and live electronic layers reimagine works by composers such as Bach, Sibelius, Beethoven and Ravel.  

The world premiere of the concert programme will take place on 8 January 2027 at Musiikkitalo – Helsinki Music Centre, with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ross Jamie Collins, a rising star in the conducting world. Emma Kajander will shine as the concert’s soprano soloist. 

"Re:Sonata is a natural continuation of our previous collaboration with Classical Trancelations. This time, the new repertoire is rooted in art music, which we approach from a fresh and open-minded perspective. Tastefully and skilfully crafted new works are enveloped by the soundscape of a symphony orchestra, creating a unique blend of the energy of electronic music and the live power of the orchestra. The classical canon joins hands with rhythmic music, and the result is greater than the sum of its parts," says Jari Eskola, Managing Director of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. 

“I have lived and breathed these works since I was a young boy, and when the opportunity arose to create a tribute to the masters of the past... I simply had to say 'yes'. Arranging them was one massive wave of goosebumps after another, and once I got going, I did not even want to sleep,” says Petri “Lowland” Alanko. 

The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and the Classical Trancelations team have worked together for the past ten years. Classical Trancelations in Concert was first performed at the Helsinki Festival in 2016. Since then, these concerts have become a true phenomenon and drawn audiences numbering in the thousands to venues such as the Helsinki Arena (now Veikkaus Arena) and Musiikkitalo – Helsinki Music Centre. Online streams and television broadcasts of the concerts have reached audiences of millions around the world.
