Oliver Beer transforms Kiasma’s top floor into a prehistoric, resonant cave
Oliver Beer was granted special permission to work and film inside Font-de-Gaume, an archaeologically significant cave in southwestern France renowned for its hundreds of prehistoric paintings, some dating back more than 15,000 years.
While studying the cave’s acoustics, Beer discovered that its strongest resonances occur in areas with the highest concentration of paintings. Singing a low F note causes the cave to vibrate, amplifying the sound many times over.
Beer invited singers from around the world to tune into the cave’s unique frequency and activate its resonance. Musicians from diverse musical traditions – Rufus Wainwright, Woodkid, eee gee, Mélissa Laveaux, Hamed Sinno, Jean-Christophe Brizard, Mo’Ju, and Michiko Takahashi – were each invited to perform the earliest song they could remember from childhood. Beer then wove these melodies, passed down through generations, into a new polyphonic composition.
The singers’ voices resonate across the gallery, evoking the experience of a cave that only a handful of people will ever have the chance to visit.
Kiasma presents the second iteration of Resonance Project: The Cave, which premiered at the Lyon Biennale in 2024. Beer’s work has previously been shown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Venice Biennale.

Utställningen Like a Prayer är den tills vidare bredaste översikten över hennes verk. Den visas på Kiasma 9.10.2026–14.2.2027.
Huora, madonna, Barbie, peto vai messias? Emma Ainalan teoksissa naiset koettelevat heille asetettuja rooleja8.10.2026 12:15:12 EEST | Tiedote
Like a Prayer -näyttely on tähän mennessä laajin katsaus hänen tuotantoonsa. Se on esillä Kiasmassa 9.10.2026–14.2.2027.
Whore, Madonna, Beast, Barbie, or Messiah? In Emma Ainala’s art women push against their allotted roles8.10.2026 12:15:12 EEST | Press release
In her oil paintings Emma Ainala opens up a seductive, chaotic world to the viewer, a world where Barbie can be a Messiah and Ophelia can drown in a sofa instead of a river. Ainala’s themes spring from being a woman, while the various meanings of the gaze take on new overtones in works made specifically for the exhibition. Here, Ainala drills down into subconscious, shared experiences of our present moment. Like a Prayer is the most extensive overview of her work to date. It will be at Kiasma 9.10.2026–14.2.2027.
Kiasman ohjelmisto 2027: Kalervo Palsan lisäksi Monster Chetwyndin osallistava installaatio ja Ars Fennica -ehdokkaiden näyttely29.9.2026 10:02:00 EEST | Tiedote
Kalervo Palsan taide avautuu keväällä uudesta näkökulmasta näyttelyssä, jossa hänen tuotantoaan tarkastellaan rinnakkain nykytaiteilijoiden kanssa. Antony Gormleyn suurnäyttelyn lisäksi Kiasmassa nähdään kansainväliset soolonäyttelyt Monster Chetwyndiltä ja Ann Lislegaardilta. Chetwynd tunnetaan osallistavista installaatioistaan ja villistä tee-se-itse-estetiikastaan. Lislegaard hyödyntää scifiä tarkastellessaan ihmiskunnan suuria kysymyksiä. Ars Fennica 2027 -palkintoehdokkaiden taidetta esittelevä näyttely avautuu syksyllä.
