MyKanta application has nearly half a million users – the application makes use of digital services easier in the whole country
20.10.2026 09:51:33 EEST | Kela/FPA | Press release
Approximately 470,000 Finns have already started to use the MyKanta application. According to a user survey, the application meets users’ wishes for easier and smoother use of digital services.

MyKanta, the most widely used digital social welfare and healthcare service in Finland, has been available as an application for phones and tablets for about a year. Earlier this year, Aalto University and Kela implemented a survey aimed at MyKanta users, in which respondents praised the application for its secure and fast login. Responses were received from 14,200 people.
The MyKanta application is particularly useful for those who use MyKanta often or use both public and private social welfare and healthcare services. The application brings together the user’s information from all services in the whole country.
“The MyKanta application supports the smooth use of digital services and helps people keep an eye on their health information. As an application, MyKanta is now even easier for many people to use,” says Arto Vuori, Director of Information Services at Kela.
Based on the survey, the MyKanta application has been widely adopted by different age groups. The proportion of respondents who had used the application was the highest in the age groups 55–64 years and 65–74 years.
The MyKanta application is available in the whole country
The MyKanta application has more 1.2 million users every month, most of whom use the service on a phone or tablet.
“The MyKanta application provides an equal opportunity to view health information everywhere in Finland,” Vuori says.
Users can view their personal information in the application anywhere and at any time.
The application includes some of the most common MyKanta functions, such as renewing prescriptions, viewing entries made by a doctor and examining laboratory results. It is possible to use the application to order notifications of prescriptions, laboratory results, entries made by a doctor and other similar matters directly to one's phone.
The MyKanta application is also suitable as a messaging channel
The MyKanta application also reminds users of the booster vaccines included in the national vaccination programme throughout the country. The technology of the application allows the sending of reminders and messages in other situations as well. In the future, it could remind Finns of matters such as seasonal influenza vaccines.
“The MyKanta application has great potential to make everyday lives of Finns easier in different life situations,” Vuori says.
The application could also serve as a communication channel for healthcare services in emergency conditions. Decisions on further development of the MyKanta application and new functionalities are made under the leadership of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.
Kela’s Kanta Services develops the application in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the National Institute for Health and Welfare, wellbeing services counties and other stakeholders.
”Patients’ Experiences of a National Mobile Patient Portal”, a master’s thesis by Heidi Mäkitalo on the experiences of MyKanta users, has been published at Aalto University. Pojkar får mer läkemedel i barndomen – flickor i tonåren20.10.2026 06:00:00 EEST | Pressmeddelande
