Enhancing the HD-PLC™ Security Functions
25.11.2020 17:00:00 EET | Business Wire | Press release
HD-PLC Alliance *1 has started standardization work that will allow the use of enhanced network security functions, with the aim of using High-Definition Power Line Communication technology in the fields of smart grids and distributed power management.
HD-PLC™*2 (hereinafter referred to as HD-PLC) technology has already been standardized as IEEE 1901 (Broadband over Power Line Networks for MAC and PHY) by the IEEE Standards Association*3 . This technology is particularly attracting attention in Europe as a communication infrastructure that can be used for distributed power management of energy. Therefore, the current security functions will be enhanced and expanded, including making the technology compatible with strong authentication functions required for use in large-scale networks. Current HD-PLC technology offers extremely high security at the device level, including continuous encrypted communication and authentication between compatible devices. However, for PLC equipment to be used in large-scale systems, it must support various advanced security requirements required from the network operation side. The IEEE Standards Association established a new project called IEEE P1901b*4 in September this year to create specifications for this purpose, and held the first working group meeting this month. HD-PLC Alliance plays a central role in the development of these specifications in collaboration with member companies and system integrators.
Last year, HD-PLC Alliance led the development of the IEEE 1901a standard, a next-generation HD-PLC specification for the Internet of Things (IoT). This standard attracts attention because it defines a communication infrastructure technology for IoT services that are becoming more and more widespread. The security functions that will be enhanced as part of the IEEE P1901b project will greatly contribute to improve the safety not only of the aforementioned large-scale systems, but also of IoT networks that use IEEE 1901a in places such as offices, and factories.
In addition, by creating an international standard, it is expected that this communication technology will be used more and more not only on power lines, but also on all types of metallic wires and coaxial cables. Furthermore, it is hoped that the increased distance and speed of communication that will become possible through the use of this technology will accelerate the use of IoT communications. This includes building large-scale networks that cover not only living spaces but also social infrastructure such as office buildings and factories.
In addition to the communication compatibility certification services it currently implements for the third-generation of HD-PLC Complete specifications, for HD-PLC inside, and for the international standard ITU-T G.9905 on multi-hop functions, HD-PLC Alliance will continue to promote HD-PLC technology by creating new standards for next generations and expanding test environments and certification logos to certify the interconnection of HD-PLC devices compliant with the IEEE 1901 standard.

The Open Group Launches the Open Footprint ® Standard, Edition 1.0 to Streamline Scope 1, 2, and 3 Emissions Management2.6.2026 10:00:00 EEST | Press release
The Open Group, the vendor-neutral technology and standards organization, today announced the release of the Open Footprint® Standard, Edition 1.0, that will help organizations streamline scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions reporting. The new standard is the first open emissions data model to address all three scopes, providing a comprehensive framework that enables organizations to collect and standardize data from their value chain and report across multiple jurisdictions. “There is an urgent need to streamline emissions data management and reduce the manual effort required to capture data within supply chains, perform data conversion, and report out to various regulators,” said Steve Nunn, President and CEO of The Open Group. “The Open Footprint Standard removes friction and lowers cost, helping organizations identify emissions reduction opportunities.” Key features of the model include: Standardized emissions data definitions and relationships Simplified emissions data sharing and interope
Thredd Renews and Expands Partnership with Caxton2.6.2026 10:00:00 EEST | Press release
Thredd, the AI-first issuer processing platform, today announced a five-year renewal and strategic programme expansion with Caxton, the leading payments solutions provider, reinforcing Thredd’s role as the company’s primary issuer-processor across consumer and corporate cards. Caxton, a leading UK payments provider, has partnered with Thredd since 2020 to power its multi-currency prepaid travel and expense cards. Customers can hold up to 15 currencies on a single card. As part of the renewed agreement, Thredd will bring Caxton’s parent-child card programme, nimbl, onto the Thredd platform. All nimbl customers will be re-carded as the programme is launched using Thredd’s infrastructure, with completion targeted before the end of the year. nimbl is a financial education-focused debit card designed for children aged 6–16, enabling parents to manage allowances and teach money management skills. The card supports multi-currency usage, allowing families to spend abroad while maintaining comp
Medscape Brings AI to the Hematology Frontline at EHA 20262.6.2026 09:00:00 EEST | Press release
Medscape Education will launch Future-Ready Hematologists: Practical and Ethical Use of AI in Hematology and Oncology at EHA 2026 on June 11, where leading experts will convene to explore responsible AI in one of medicine's most complex, rapidly evolving specialties. Registration is free for all EHA delegates. Reserve your seat here. The session is chaired by Prof. Jakob N. Kather, MD, MSc, Else Kroener Fresenius Center for Digital Health, Technical University Dresden, and NCT, University Hospital Heidelberg. He is joined by Prof. Chan Cheah, MBBS, DMSc, Consultant Hematologist, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth, Australia; and Prof. Matthew Lunning, DO, FACP, Chief of Hematology and Assistant Vice Chancellor of Research, University of Nebraska Medical Center. Hematology moves faster than any clinician can track alone. AI can close that gap, but only if it's built on validated, evidence-backed science.
