FinnBuild Highlights 2022 -competition opened

Share
Finland’s largest construction and building technology trade fair FinnBuild fills the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre on 4-6 October and gathers construction industry professionals after a four-year break. The FinnBuild Highlights competition searches for the exhibition’s most interesting products and services.

From among more than 400 exhibitors, the FinnBuild Highlights competition searches for the most interesting inventions and gems of product development, which

  • enhance the industry’s business ability, quality development and safety or
  • ecological responsibility (low carbon, circular economy, biodiversity) or
  • social responsibility (personnel, corporate responsibility, end users of the building)

The proposal can be a ready-made product, service or method based on research or development work that renews the industry and meets the competition’s application criteria. The recipient of the FinnBuild Highlights grand prize of EUR 10,000, awarded by the Finnish Fair Foundation, will be announced at the event on 4 October 2022.

The exhibition areas of the professional event, which fills the entire Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre, are concrete, wood, construction, building technology, infrastructure, work machines, safety at work and complimentary building materials. FinnBuild is the largest professional event at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre both in terms of number of visitors and exhibition area.

”In the current world situation there is no shortage of topical subjects, as it has been four years since the previous FinnBuild. The industry awaits the event eagerly, especially the evening party, where Raskasta Iskelmää will perform on 5 October,” says Jussi Kivikari, Business Director of FinnBuild.

The SPAN wooden bridge competition challenges students at FinnBuild. The competition is intended for building technology polytechnic and university students from all over Finland. The competition task is to build a bridge with a free span of 1.0 meters, using 9 meters of 10 x 10 mm planks, 1.5 meters of 10 x 20 mm planks and 1 dl of Erikeeper glue.

The EUR 5,000 scholarship awarded by the Finnish Fair Foundation is divided into smaller 2 x EUR 1,500 and EUR 2,000 prizes by competition category.

The competition is organised by the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre in co-operation with Rakennusinsinöörit ja -arkkitehdit RIA ry (building engineers and architects RIA) and the Finnish Association of Civil Engineers RIL in connection with the FinnBuild trade fair, where the assembly and testing of the wooden bridges entered to the competition will also be organised.

FinnBuild is the largest event in the field of construction and building technology in Finland, both in terms of number of participating companies and visitors, as well as the exhibition area. It is normally organised every other year. In 2018, more than 25,000 visitors visited the event.
