Finnish Immigration Service’s report on operations for 2022 has been published
Last year, the number of people applying for asylum or temporary protection was higher than ever before. More than 47,000 Ukrainians applied for temporary protection in Finland.
The immigration of international professionals increased, and the Finnish Immigration Service continued to improve the permit processes concerning residence permits issued for work and studies.

The Finnish Immigration Service suspended making decisions on asylum applications from Syrians in December 2024 because of the considerable changes in the security situation in Syria. The Finnish Immigration Service will now resume issuing decisions for Syrian asylum seekers. The Finnish Immigration Service constantly monitors the security situation in different countries, as the most recent country of origin information is needed to assess the need for protection when processing asylum applications. In order to ensure decision-making of high quality, the Finnish Immigration Service maintains awareness of the security situation and its changes in different countries.

Migrationsverket avbröt beslutsfattandet om asylansökningar från syriska medborgare i december 2024 till följd av att säkerhetsläget i Syrien förändrades väsentligt. Nu återupptar verket beslutsfattandet om asylansökningar som lämnats in av syriska medborgare. Migrationsverket följer upp säkerhetsläget i olika länder hela tiden, eftersom aktuell landinformation behövs vid behandlingen av asylansökningar för att bedöma behovet av skydd. För att säkerställa att beslutsfattandet håller hög kvalitet upprätthåller verket en lägesbild av säkerhetsläget i olika länder och hur läget förändras.
