Kempower and Allego join forces to open a pilot EV fast charging site in the Netherlands

Share
UTRECHT, THE NETHERLANDS - Kempower and Allego, a leading European public EV-charging network provider, have partnered to open a pilot charging station in the Dutch province of Utrecht. During this pilot period, both parties will use feedback from EV drivers to further enhance the two permanent charging sites to be installed in the Netherlands and Belgium.
  • Kempower and Allego have partnered to open a new pilot charging site in the Dutch province of Utrecht.
  • Kempower has supplied the pilot site with two Kempower Satellite chargers, each providing up to 200 kW of power.
  • After a three-month trial, the companies will open two permanent charging sites in the Netherlands and Belgium. Each site will feature a 600 kW charging system with 6 Kempower Satellites, capable of providing up to 200 kW per charging point.

To achieve climate neutrality by 2050, the EU has calculated that it needs to reduce transportation emissions by 90%. With the Dutch transportation sector producing over 26 million tons of CO2 in 2020, and Belgium emitting slightly less at just over 21 million tons, the Benelux region must embrace e-mobility to reach emission-reduction targets. Allego aims to help Europe meet sustainability targets by building new charging infrastructure to support the European EV revolution.

To expand and diversify its charging hardware portfolio, Allego has partnered with Kempower to launch the first pilot EV-charging station in De Meern, and later two charging hubs in the Netherlands and Belgium. By replacing the existing first-generation charging equipment at the stations, the upgraded stations will accelerate the availability of fast charging infrastructure in the Benelux.

The pilot site at De Meern is equipped with a Kempower Power Unit featuring two Kempower Satellite chargers with 3 plugs, capable of providing up to 200 kW of power per plug. The Kempower Power Unit can distribute power dynamically through a ‘flexible sharing’ functionality, allowing three EVs to be charged simultaneously at any one time.

The pilot site will be open to the public for a three-month trial period. Allego and Kempower will collect data and feedback from the trial to further improve on the construction of two permanent EV-charging hubs, located in Bunnik, the Netherlands, and Gentbrugge, Belgium. The two new sites will both offer a total capacity of 600 kW, divided between 6 single-plug Kempower Satellite chargers.

Commenting on the project, Tomi Ristimäki, CEO at Kempower, said:

“The Kempower Satellite charging system is an ideal solution for this pilot charging site as the design is completely futureproofed. Additionally, the system's modularity means it can be scaled up to meet demand as the EV market grows. The charging stations we will launch with Allego will offer a first-class charging experience for EV drivers in the Benelux region.”

Jules Sommers, Senior Product Manager at Allego, added:

“This is the first project where we’ve collaborated with our new EV-charging hardware partner Kempower. I’m excited to review the results of the initial field test to develop and to expand our network of permanent charging stations in the Netherlands and Belgium, and accelerate the Benelux’s EV transition.”
