The topic is the time after the coronavirus pandemic: How do we adapt to the changes that the post-coronavirus world will bring? What can we do to influence the direction of change?

The programme begins with an opening discussion, featuring President Niinistö, Archiatre Risto Pelkonen, and Adina Nivukoski, President of the Union of Upper Secondary School Students in Finland. The second thematic discussion will consider how the global economy and the Finnish economy will cope with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and its mitigation. The theme will be discussed by Risto Siilasmaa, Chairman of Nokia and F-Secure, Former Prime Minister Esko Aho, and Anu Partanen, Senior Advisor, Nordic West Office.

The third issue is the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on our society. How will the experience change our relationships with each other and our common values? How do we create a better tomorrow? Participating in this discussion will be Karina Jutila, Director, e2 Research, Juha Itkonen, writer and Chair of the Central Arts Council, and Nelli Hankonen, Assistant Professor of Social Psychology, University of Helsinki.

The Kultaranta Talks will end with a discussion between President Niinistö, Speaker of Parliament Matti Vanhanen and Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

Statement by President Niinistö on the election situation in the United States7.1.2021 15:55:41 EETPress release

Office of the President of the Republic Press release 1/2021 7 January 2021 The United States Congress has today certified the result of the presidential election. The continuation of the constitutional process shows that the system is still working, even if it has been put to the test. We have also seen measures to restore order. A sense of responsibility is gaining ground. The transfer of power and the acceptance of a losing election result are key elements of the democratic order. Debate within the United States must now look for answers as to why attitudes have hardened and escalated, and how national unity will be rebuilt. It must be recognised that, in addition to aggressive political rhetoric and incitement, there are deeper reasons. There is also an underlying disappointment in the weakening of social status and inclusion, with the result that claims of arrogance on the part of those in power have found an audience. At worst, this leads to the disorder we have now seen, which i

Tasavallan presidentin kanslia Tiedote 1/2021 7.1.2021 Yhdysvaltain kongressi on tänään vahvistanut presidentinvaalien tuloksen. Vastuuntuntoisuus on voittamassa alaa.

President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö’s New Year’s Speech on 1 January 20211.1.2021 12:15:00 EETPress release

My fellow citizens, I would like to extend my warmest thanks to all of you. So far, we have coped with the coronavirus pandemic rather well compared to many other countries. Particular thanks go to those who have worked to look after the health of others. This is something we achieved together, however. Finland has again proven its strength and resilience in a tight spot. The coronavirus has put us all to the test. To highly varying degrees: some have faced irrevocable losses, while others have got off more lightly with only inconvenience in their normal daily lives. However, this is an experience we all share. No one has remained unaffected. Our future success also depends on each one of us. Even if we already feel tired, we must find the strength to go on. The hardship is not over yet. While vaccines have already given us some hope, even in the best case the exceptional conditions will continue for several months. Complying with the restrictions is the only way of getting rid of the
