MFA: Minister Skinnari to visit Brazil

Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will visit Brazil from 8 to 12 November 2021. The Minister will have bilateral meetings with, among others, Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos França, and Minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic Augusto Heleno, with whom bilateral discussions have already taken place virtually in December 2020. Minister Skinnari will also meet with representatives of Brazilian industry and will be accompanied by about ten Team Finland representatives aiming to promote Finnish export and internationalisation.

During the visit, Minister Skinnari aims to strengthen the bilateral and economic relations between the two countries. In addition to meetings with Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs França and Minister of Institutional Security Cabinet Heleno, Minister Skinnari will meet with Minister of Justice and Public Security Anderson Gustavo Torres in Brasília.

While in Brazil, Minister Skinnari will attend Amazônia in Loco, an event to be held in Belém on 9–11 November 2021. The event will be organised by European Chambers of Commerce in Brazil, with the Finnish Chamber of Commerce (FinnCham) and the Spanish Chambers of Commerce in the lead role. The event will bring together private and public sector actors to discuss the opportunities offered by sustainable economic development in the Amazon region.

The visit will include both bilateral and Team Finland meetings. Brazil is Finland's biggest trading partner in Latin America. The Brazilian market offers considerable opportunities for Finnish companies and Finnish innovation in both digital economy, bioeconomy and circular economy and the defence sectors. As part of the Team Finland visits, Minister Skinnari will meet the chairpersons of The Federation of Industries of the State of São Paolo (FIESP) and the Brazilian Tree Industry (Ibá) in São Paulo as well as other key Brazilian economic leaders together with Finnish companies.

On 4 November 2021, Brazil held the world’s largest 5G spectrum auction. Investments related to the auction will be continued for more than two decades.
