Minister for Foreign Affairs Haavisto to Estonia and Latvia

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will visit Tallinn in Estonia and Riga in Latvia on 25 January.

In Tallinn, Minister Haavisto will meet President of Estonia Alar Karis and Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Reinsalu.

In Riga, Minister Haavisto will meet President of Latvia Egils Levits and Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs. In addition, he will speak at the meeting of Latvian heads of mission about the security policy situation in Europe.

The bilateral meetings will focus on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Finland’s NATO membership process, among other topics.

“It is useful to meet our close partner nations and exchange views on topical security policy questions. Finland, Estonia and Latvia emphasise the need to continue the strong support to Ukraine,” Minister Haavisto says.

Ministry for Foreign Affairs granted an authorisation for Russian fertiliser cargo stopped at Port of Kotka23.3.2023 15:53:45 EET | Press release

On 9 March, the National Enforcement Authority Finland imposed interim measures to freeze a shipment of fertilisers, loaded on board at the Port of Kotka. The fertilizers were suspected of being under control of a person listed in the EU sanctions against Russia. An investigation, carried out in cooperation among authorities, confirmed the link between the shipment of fertilisers and a sanctioned individual.
