Occupational safety level classifications revealed – 39 workplaces reach the goal of zero accidents

110 workplaces received an occupational safety level classification, which is more than ever before.
“The purpose of the Zero Accident Forum is the long-term development of occupational safety. It is wonderful to see that, despite the global uncertainties, workplaces have found the resources to work towards the improvement of occupational safety,” says Anna Melleri, Director of Risk Management at VR Group. Melleri also chairs the steering group for the Zero Accident Forum.
A culture of care facilitates the development of occupational safety
It has been observed that co-operation, an open culture of dialogue and responsibility over employees and colleagues helped yield good results in the workplaces that received the safety level classification. These workplaces have in common a genuine commitment to the development of occupational safety.
“The workplaces that received the safety classification include workplaces from all industrial sectors. The workplaces have internalized the concept that occupational safety is not there to make things more difficult but rather something that makes for a good daily life for everyone as part of everyday work,” says Tiina-Mari Monni, Product Manager at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health and Director of the Zero Accident Forum.
Investing in occupational safety also yields concrete results. In 2022, the average number of accidents at Finnish workplaces amounted to 26 accidents per one million working hours. At the member workplaces of the Zero Accident Forum, the average accident frequency was 9.2 per one million working hours.
Occupational safety thinking brings people together
This year, the Zero Accident Forum celebrates its 20th anniversary. The Forum currently includes 523 member workplaces.
“It is fantastic that, even after 20 years, occupational safety thinking is considered important at workplaces. Matters of occupational safety concern all of us, as they are aimed at improving Finnish work life as a whole. Nowadays, the Forum’s operations are even more active, and the increased number of member workplaces has also allowed regional operations,” says Maija-Leena Merivirta, Senior Specialist at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health and Co-ordinator of the Zero Accident Forum.
The Zero Accident Forum will organize an open anniversary seminar on Tue, 23 May, and Wed, 24 May, 2023 in Original Sokos Hotel Tripla in Helsinki and online. The theme of the seminar is “Safety equals encounters”. Everyone is welcome to the seminar, and registration does not require membership of the forum.

Zero Accident Forum
