RSC Group: Jyväskylän yliopisto liittyi monikansalliseen työryhmään covid-19-taudin torjumiseksi
Jyväskylän yliopiston Nanotiedekeskus ja kemian laitos ovat liittyneet kansainväliseen tiederyhmään – Venäjältä, Italiasta ja Kanadasta – joka sai ensisijaisen pääsyn venäläiseen RSC Tornado -supertietokoneeseen covid-19-koronavirusinfektion torjuntaa koskevien menetelmien tutkimiseksi.

Monikansallinen tutkimusryhmä käyttää hiljattain päivitettyä klusterijärjestelmää, joka perustuu 2. sukupolven Intel® Xeon® Scalable -prosessoreihin, jotka RSC Group, Venäjän johtava ratkaisujen tarjoaja suurteholaskennan alalla, on ottanut käyttöön.
Kansainvälisen hankkeen tavoitteena on kehittää lääke maailmanlaajuisen pandemian aiheuttaneen tarttuvan koronavirustaudin diagnosointia ja hoitoa varten. Hoitokeinojen löytäminen covid-19-taudin haitallisen vaikutuksen estämiseksi ja lieventämiseksi on tällä hetkellä maailmanlaajuisen tiedeyhteisön tärkein tavoite. Kansainvälisessä ja monitieteisessä hankkeessa hyödynnetään kokeellisen fysiikan, kemian ja biologian uusinta kehitystä viruksen elinkaaren tutkimiseksi ja erityisesti tiettyihin proteiineihin keskittymiseksi. Pitkälle kehitetyt simulointimallit edellyttävät superlaskentatehoa, jotta voidaan tutkia kaikki yksityiskohdat koronaviruksen pinnalla olevan piikkiproteiinin ja ihmisen ACE2-proteiinin, jonka tiedetään olevan SARS- ja SARS-2-koronavirusten pääsykohta, vuorovaikutuksen välillä. Tämän avulla kaikki tutkimusvaiheet voidaan saattaa päätökseen lyhyessä ajassa.

Kansainvälinen työryhmä koostuu seuraavista:
- Digitaalisesti valvottujen lääkkeiden ja teranostiikan laboratorio ja magneettisten ilmiöiden fysiikan laboratorio, fysiikan instituutti Kirensky liittovaltion tiedekeskuksessa, Venäjän tiedeakatemian Siperian toimipiste (KIP FSC SB RAS, Krasnojarsk, Venäjä),
- Biomolekyyli- ja lääketieteellisen tekniikan laboratorio, V.F. Voyno-Yasenetskylle nimetty Krasnojarskin lääketieteellinen valtionyliopisto (KSMU, Krasnojarsk, Venäjä) – hankekoordinaattori,
- Kemiallisen kybernetiikan laboratorio, Lomonosoville nimetyn Moskovan valtionyliopiston kemian laitos (MSU, Moskova, Venäjä),
- Biomolekyylijärjestelmien ja nanomateriaalien tietokonesimulaation laboratorio, biokemiallisen fysiikan N. M. Emanuel -instituutti, Venäjän tiedeakatemia (IBCP RAS, Moskova, Venäjä),
- Orgaanisen synteesin laboratorio, kemiallisen biologian ja peruslääketieteen instituutti, Venäjän tiedeakatemian Siperian toimipiste (ICBFM SB RAS, Novosibirsk, Venäjä),
- Nanotiedekeskus ja kemian laitos, Jyväskylän yliopisto, Jyväskylä (Suomi),
- Kokeellisen endokrinologian ja onkologian instituutti (IEOS), osa kansallista tutkimusneuvostoa (CNR), Napoli (Italia),
- Molekyylilääketieteen ja lääketieteellisen biotekniikan laitos, Napolin Federico II -yliopisto (Italia),
Bioanalyyttisen ja molekyylitason vuorovaikutuksen laboratorio, kemian ja biomolekyylitieteiden laitos, Ottawan yliopisto (Kanada).
