European news agencies reinforce Brussels reporting with the launch of the European newsroom7.9.2022 09:53:19 EEST | Tiedote

The European Newsroom (enr), a joint project of 18 European news agencies, was launched in Brussels today. The aim of the initiative is to reinforce reporting from the heart of Europe, as well as fostering cooperation between international agency correspondents. The European Newsroom provides shared workspaces, technical infrastructure and an extensive programme of training and events. In the presence of Commission Vice-Presidents Vera Jourova and Margaritis Schinas, as well as around 200 guests from politics, business and the media, the initiators stressed the importance of international cooperation in the media sector and common efforts to fight disinformation.

From May 23 to 26, some 400 million people in 27 EU member countries can take an active part in shaping the future of the European Union and cast their votes in the European elections. On assignment from the European Parliament, the dpa subsidiary news aktuell, under the press portal URL http://EUrVOTE.eu, in the weeks ahead will be making information packages for use by the media available free of charge. The spot news, background reports and interactive graphics were produced by dpa-Custom Content and can be used by the media for their news coverage. Starting with the first themed packages in February, the offering will be expanded with new content at regular intervals through May. During the General assembly held in Warsaw on Friday, September 21st, members of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) elected Mr Peter Kropsch, CEO of German news agency DPA, as new President of the organization, for a 2 year mandate. Also, Mr Alexandru Giboi, CEO of Romanian National News Agency AGERPRES, was elected Secretary General of EANA, for a 3 year mandate. Mr Jiri Majstr, CEO of Czech news agency CTK, and Mr Michalis Psilos, CEO of Greek news agency ANA-MPA, were elected Board Members, joining Mr Clemens Pig, CEO of the Austrian APA, who is going to serve for another 2 years.
