Varma commissions new head office building for Kesko in Kalasatama

The office campus to be built for the K Group in Helsinki’s Kalasatama area, on a plot owned by Varma, will comprise roughly 27,000 square metres and a parking facility that will accommodate some 200 cars. Around 1,700 people will work at Kesko’s new K-Kampus.

The modern office campus will additionally include adjacent office premises totalling some 7,000 m2 which can be flexibly modified for other users. Construction is set to begin in January 2017 and the premises will be completed in 2019. Leasing of the premises has already begun.

“We are pleased that this new head office project allows us to continue our long-term and positive collaboration with Kesko. We believe that the Kalasatama area will become a strong business, commercial and residential hub close to the city centre,” stresses Ilkka Tomperi, investment director in charge of Varma’s real estate operations.

Good traffic connections, such as the immediate proximity of a metro station, and the nearby shopping centre, REDI, will serve those working on the premises as well as its visitors. The BREEAM environmental rating of ‘Very Good’ will be sought for the new office building.

“The Kalasatama office campus is one of Varma’s largest real estate development projects. The starting point for planning the spaces has been space efficiency and flexibility, which will lay the foundation for productive work in companies of different sizes,” says Aarne Markkula, Varma’s property development manager.

In connection with the agreement concerning the K-Kampus, Varma also purchased Kesko’s former head office building in Katajanokka, with the intention of developing it, for example, for residential use.
