The Ocean Impact Organization has selected RiverRecycle as one of the seven participants out of over 90 applicants in their accelerator program. This recognition further embeds RiverRecycle in a cohort of impactful business innovators intending to recover the health of our oceans and bring positive social and economic change.

Helsinki/Sydney, 7.12.2022. The Australian organization aims to support and accelerate ocean impact businesses by offering mentoring and financial support. With a circular business model that provides river cleaning as a free service to communities in developing countries, RiverRecycle embodies the perfect match for their “Pollution and biodiversity protection” category.

RiverRecycle provides circular economy solutions to communities in developing countries to stop plastic pollution from entering the oceans through rivers. The solutions include technology to clean floating waste from waterways and recycle low-value plastics. This combination provides the communities with permanent jobs and increased economic opportunities by boosting the circularity of plastic waste.

Mr. Anssi Mikola, the founder and CEO of Riverrecycle, stated: “OIO has Introduced us to the Australian business community as well as the other members of the accelerator cohort. This, combined with having been selected for investment from among over 90 startups in the space of ocean health, has given us a valuable boost. We look forward to engaging with more cooperation between Australia and Finland to stop our oceans' pollution by increasing the circular economy in developing countries.”

Nick Chiarelli, Co-founder and CEO of Ocean Impact Organisation, commented: “We are thrilled to have River Recycle as one of our first portfolio startups through the Ocean Impact Accelerator Program 2022. River Recycle is achieving real positive ocean impact through their novel approach to river cleaning and recycling, and we are excited to support them as they plan to scale to more locations.”

RiverRecycle solution is designed as a transition model from land and river-based collection to fully functional land-based collection and segregation over time. This financially sustainable plastic waste collection associated with chemical and mechanical recycling solutions will benefit local communities and reduce ocean plastic pollution, creating an economically viable local venture combined with a high environmental impact.
