Scams are here to stay – online fraud insurance helps victims of fraud

Share

Currently, the fastest growing data security threats are scams targeting individuals. There is also a growing need for consumers to protect themselves against all kinds of scams and identity theft. DNA is responding to this need with Nettipetosvakuutus. This online fraud insurance will be added to DNA’s comprehensive Digiturva security service in April. Nettipetosvakuutus insurance helps and supports consumers when they fall victim to online scams. DNA Digiturva already includes Huijausturva – a fraud protection service that was launched earlier this year.

DNA Digiturva is a comprehensive security service that blocks threats and protects all devices, personal data, passwords and internet use. Earlier this year, the service was enhanced with a new feature called Huijausturva, which helps to identify untrustworthy webstores, block malicious websites and detect text message scams. The new online fraud insurance will provide consumers with help and support if they find themselves the victims of online fraud. Although DNA Digiturva provides comprehensive threat protection, Nettipetosvakuutus insurance ensures access to assistance if something does happen. Private customers who have purchased the DNA Digiturva service automatically fall under the coverage of the insurance without any additional cost.

“If you suspect that you have been the victim of online fraud or harassment, our online fraud insurance will provide you with advice and legal assistance. The financial sector has reported that the number of scam reports received by banks during 2024 increased by almost 40 per cent on the previous year. This means that Finns have lost more than EUR 100 million to fraud – only some of which banks were able to prevent or recover. Online fraud insurance will help customers to get their money back and therefore provides significant financial security,” says Heidi Havastila, Head of Value Added Services at DNA.

The insurance covers online shopping fraud, identity theft, and other fraudulent use or dissemination of card and personal data. The service also includes online shopping security and help for victims of online harassment, for example, in cases where offensive or harmful material has been distributed without permission.

"Unfortunately, scams have become increasingly difficult to identify. Anyone can stumble upon a genuine-looking scam website, click on a link and end up handing over their personal data to criminals, which can lead to significant financial losses or other unpleasant consequences,” says Havastila.

In addition to legal advice and potential court costs, DNA’s online fraud insurance covers the expense of seeing a psychologist, so that victims can also process events with a professional counsellor. The customer can also receive legal assistance related to their online shopping purchases, and support is provided to victims of online harassment in removing offensive or harmful content from the internet.

“Taking measures to protect your digital life and identity may feel daunting, but it’s also more important than ever before. Unfortunately, scammers are also learning and developing, and scams that use AI can now be really convincing. We’re pleased that we’ve been able to expand our already comprehensive security service with insurance that provides support, advice and financial security to our customers in very difficult situations,” says Havastila.

For its online fraud insurance service, DNA has partnered with HELP, a Nordic company that specialises in legal aid.

"As more and more people have access to legal aid, our society's legal protection will increase. Bundling key insurance services and psychological support into one package ensures that people can get the help and support they need in an easy and straightforward manner," says Markus Ginman, Country Director Finland at HELP.

Both online fraud insurance and fraud protection are included in DNA’s Digiturva, which can be purchased from DNA’s online store, dna.fi chat, DNA Stores or via DNA’s sales and customer service.

Koululaistutkimus: vanhempien huoli pienten lasten älypuhelimista heräsi – ruutuaikaa rajoitetaan nyt kiihtyvällä tahdilla7.8.2025 09:00:00 EEST | Tiedote

Suurin osa vanhemmista rajoittaa 5–12-vuotiaiden lastensa puhelimella viettämää aikaa tavalla tai toisella, selviää DNA:n teettämästä Koululaistutkimuksesta. Siitä huolimatta reilu kolmannes 5–12-vuotiaista viettää puhelimillaan 2–4 tuntia päivässä. Perheissä, joissa lapselle on päätetty hankkia puhelin yhteydenpitoa varten, on entistä useammin päädytty kellopuhelimeen. Kellopuhelimella on helppo rajoittaa lapsen älylaitteilla viettämää aikaa, mutta myös lykätä lapsen oman älylaitteen hankintaa.

School Survey: parents concerned about young children’s smartphone use – screen time is now being restricted at an accelerating rate7.8.2025 09:00:00 EEST | Press release

According to a School Survey commissioned by DNA, most parents limit the amount of time that children aged 5–12 can spend on their phones in one way or another. However, in spite of this, just over a third of 5–12-year-olds spend 2–4 hours a day on their phones. More and more families who want their children to have a phone for contact purposes have decided to get a smartwatch meant for kids. A smartwatch is an easy way to both limit the amount of time a child spends on smart devices and to postpone the purchase of their first smartphone.
