Number of scams on the rise – DNA's new mobile and broadband subscriptions block harmful websites
Currently, the fastest growing data security threats are scams targeting individuals. There is also a growing need for consumers to protect themselves against all kinds of scams. DNA is responding to consumers' need to protect themselves against various data security threats by launching DNA Huoleton subscriptions – these new phone and broadband subscriptions include secure internet browsing as a free additional service. Sales of the new consumer subscriptions will begin on Monday, 26 May 2025. Taking care of the data security of subscriptions is an important corporate responsibility measure that responds to the real needs of customers. Safe browsing is also available for business customers' mobile voice and data subscriptions, and it will now be available for broadband subscriptions as well.

There has been a dramatic increase in the number of scams. They can cause significant financial losses for both individuals and companies. Scams impact the national economy and even national security. According to the financial sector, Finns lost over EUR 100 million last year to various scams, particularly phishing.
Scams often look so convincing that it is difficult to tell them apart from genuine messages and websites. In addition, criminals are also harnessing AI to create increasingly targeted and credible scams. DNA Huoleton subscriptions include secure browsing as an additional feature. It identifies scam sites, providing peace of mind and added security for consumer customers, whether they are using their home internet, mobile broadband, monthly phone subscription or a prepaid subscription. The secure browsing additional service works on DNA’s fixed and mobile networks.
Customers can choose whether to activate the secure browsing service on their subscription. No separate app is required to use the service. Customers can easily activate the service in the Oma DNA app, DNA Store or DNA’s customer service.
"The new DNA Huoleton subscriptions provide consumers with real added value and security by blocking malicious scam websites. What’s more, we’re preventing cybercrime throughout society. We’ve worked ceaselessly to protect our customers' data security – in recent years, we’ve blocked tens of millions of scam calls and millions of scam text messages. Unfortunately, scams are here to stay, and the risk of being targeted has increased significantly, no matter who you are. DNA Huoleton subscriptions respond to this challenge by making browsing safer for our DNA mobile and internet customers on the DNA network. Simply securing phone usage is not enough," says Heidi Havastila, Head of Value Added Services at DNA.
There are many different types of scams. Cybercriminals send emails and text messages to consumers and business representatives that seem to originate from trusted sources, such as banks, well-known companies or business partners. The message often contains a link that directs you to a scam website, where you are requested to enter sensitive information such as passwords or payment card numbers. Often, the aim is to get the victim to identify themselves using their banking credentials. Cybercriminals create scam websites that look authentic in terms of content and appearance, which makes them difficult to identify.
"Although detecting scams is difficult, protecting your digital life doesn't have to be complicated. We’ve now made it easy for our customers to browse safely. It’s a snap for customers to activate the secure browsing service at no extra charge on their phone, mobile broadband and home internet. Once it has been turned on, the service will block access to identified malicious sites. It provides our customers with real-time protection that warns them about suspicious sites before any harm is done," says Havastila.
DNA launched DNA Varma mobile phone and data subscriptions with secure browsing functionalities for corporate customers back in May last year. DNA Varma corporate customer subscriptions are now being rounded out with fixed broadband subscriptions. DNA Varma makes internet use safer for company employees, and DNA provides added value to its corporate customers by blocking malicious scam sites for individual users. DNA Varma subscriptions protect Internet users in DNA’s fixed and mobile network and block identified harmful websites, phishing attempts and malware. At the same time, they safeguard the data of the employee and thereby of the whole company.
