Snellman Group commits to setting science-based climate targets
Mitigating climate change requires rapid action. Snellman Group has committed to the international Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and will set science-based short-term emission reduction targets.

The work to set the targets has already commenced. When work with the targets is finalized, they will be submitted to the Science Based Targets initiative for approval. The targets are approved separately by SBTi after they have been set.
The commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative is a significant step in Snellman Group's sustainability work and an important part of the implementation of the company's strategy. It is only by operating sustainably that we can ensure that the Snellman Group remains a successful and dynamic family business offering the best tastes to meal moments with the most trusted brands on the market — also for the future generations.
Our values have always guided us to take responsibility for the well-being of people, animals, environment and society as a whole. We have already achieved significant reductions in our greenhouse gas emissions in our own operations over several years.

We will continue to reduce emissions from our own operations more ambitiously, for example, by saving energy and further reducing our use of fossil fuels, which is already at a low level. By committing to set science-based climate goals, we will strengthen our climate actions, especially in terms of emissions from the value chain. Our goal is to enable a better future for everyone, by producing food more sustainably. This is done in cooperation with our partners,” says Vilma Wiitakorpi Björkman, Director, Communications and Sustainability at Snellman Group.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is an international initiative that helps companies to set ambitious emission reduction targets based on the latest science. It develops standards, tools and guidelines to help businesses set greenhouse gas emission reduction targets under the Paris Agreement. The initiative is a collaboration between CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), and it is also one of the commitments of the We Mean Business Coalition.
