Record number of applicants to Hanken’s Bachelor’s and Doctoral programmes
Hanken School of Economics has seen a significant rise in applications to its English-taught Bachelor in Business programme, clearly surpassing last year’s figures. This year, the programme attracted 1,237 applicants (2025: 1,020).
The first joint application round for higher education in Finland for programmes taught in foreign languages closed on 21 January 2026. Hanken’s Master’s programmes in English attracted 744 applicants (2025: 769). In total, Hanken received 2,455 applications from 56 different countries around the world (2025: 2,193).
“We are proud that Hanken, despite strong global competition for talented students, has continued to increase the number of applicants to most of its programmes in English,” says Mika Gabrielsson, Dean of Education at Hanken.
The application period for the doctoral programme closed on 8 January 2026 with a total of 262 applicants. This is an increase of more than 30 percent compared with 2025, and the highest number ever recorded.
“We are delighted to see such strong interest in our high-quality doctoral education, and we are particularly pleased about the significant increase in applications from Finland. The high level of international interest clearly demonstrates the strong quality of research at Hanken and our ability to attract engaged and ambitious applicants,” states Gyöngyi Kovács, Hanken’s Dean of Research.
Hanken’s one-year Master’s Programme in Sustainability Reporting and Financial Analysis has also generated encouraging interest in the first application round in Sweden, with the number of applications rising by approximately 16 percent compared with last year.
The programme is offered in cooperation between Hanken in Vaasa and the Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics. Studies will begin in autumn 2026 in Umeå and continue in Vaasa in spring 2027.
All application numbers in this article are preliminary.
