Research Director Eeva Primmer appointed Executive Director of the Stockholm Environment Institute

Eeva Primmer, Research Director at the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke), is moving to a new position. She will begin as Executive Director of the Stockholm Environment Institute in May.

The appointment strengthens the international position of Finnish environmental research. The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is an international non-profit research institute that tackles climate, environment and sustainable development challenges. Its mission is to support decision-making and advance sustainable development around the world bridging science, policy and practice in the field of environment and development. The organisation is headquartered in Stockholm and has seven additional offices around the world. 

According to Syke’s Director General, Leif Schulman, Eeva Primmer has actively promoted the dialogue between science and decision-making and helped build strong international networks for Syke. 

"Eeva has strengthened the impact and visibility of Finnish environmental research with determination. Her appointment signals international confidence in our interdisciplinary research addressing systemic challenges.” 

Throughout her career, Primmer has consistently advanced environmental research, particularly on sustainable development, natural resources, ecosystem services and environmental policy. She has worked at the Finnish Environment Institute for more than 25 years as a researcher, research professor and Research Director. 

"The Finnish Environment Institute has successfully combined high-quality research with cogeneration of sustainable solutions. This combination serves decision-making and it has made Syke's researchers into capable facilitators of sustainability transformation. I will continue to lead this kind of work, in an even more international setting,” Primmer says. 

The Finnish Environment Institute works to accelerate sustainability transformation and provides independent research and data to support decision-making and to address global challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, overconsumption, pollution and eutrophication.
