Media representatives are welcome to the media event of HAM’s upcoming exhibition Magdalena Abakanowicz: Crossing Boundaries on Tuesday, May 5, at 10 AM.

Magdalena Abakanowicz: Crossing Boundaries marks the first solo exhibition in Finland by Magdalena Abakanowicz (1930–2017), one of Poland’s most acclaimed artists. HAM’s grand arched halls will be filled with the artist’s iconic textile sculptures, Abakans, as well as impressive burlap sculptures. The exhibition will be open from 6 May to 30 August 2026.

Time: Tuesday May 5 at 10 AM
Location: HAM Helsinki Art Museum, Eteläinen Rautatiekatu 8

The media event will feature speeches from HAM’s Museum Director Arja Miller, Head of Exhibitions Kati Kivinen and Curator Satu Metsola, as well as the curator for this exhibition, Eulalia Domanowska, Director of the State Gallery of Art in Sopot. The event will be held in Finnish and English.

The exhibition is organised in cooperation with the Marta Magdalena Abakanowicz Kosmowska and Jan Kosmowski Foundation. The exhibition is supported by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.

HAM Helsinki Art Museum is one of the most significant art museums in Finland and the Nordic region. HAM actively curates a broad international exhibition program and houses a rich collection of over 10,000 artworks, which includes the city of Helsinki’s public art collection. HAM is responsible for art conservation, curation, public art commissions, and acquisitions within Helsinki’s art collection, encompassing both domestic and international works.
