Timo Mämmelä Appointed to Lead Norelco’s Data Center Business

Mämmelä continues at Norelco in this new position. Having previously served as the company’s Export Manager, he is well-versed in its solutions, customers, and operating practices. In his new role, he will develop the data center business and customer relationships, as well as oversee project execution in collaboration with customers, partners, and Norelco’s own organization.

Norelco’s data center deliveries include NorPower 5000 and Okken modular switchboards, NorMega withdrawable circuit-breaker switchgear, automation cabinets, and NorUnit E-House power distribution units and E-Pods. The growth of artificial intelligence, cloud services, and other digital services is increasing the demand for data centers. This sector is vital for Norelco, as a data center requires a reliable electrical system throughout its entire lifecycle. Power distribution systems must also be adaptable to accommodate increases in the center's capacity.

According to Ari Hämäläinen, CEO of Norelco, issues regarding power availability and distribution reliability must be addressed during the project's planning phase.

"A data center is not merely a building filled with servers; it is one of society’s critical electrical systems. If power distribution fails, the consequences can include financial losses running into the millions and the disruption of digital services worldwide," Hämäläinen explains.

Mämmelä’s role is to assemble Norelco’s products and services into a comprehensive solution tailored to the customer's project. In a data center’s electrical system, components such as switchboards, automation systems, and maintenance services must work seamlessly together, even during operational expansions.

"Since data center capacity can change rapidly, power distribution systems must also be capable of scaling up in phases without lengthy downtime. Modularity, predictive condition monitoring, and ease of maintenance are now just as important as the electrical power capacity itself," says Hämäläinen.
