“Along with the elderly, young people have been among the biggest victims of the coronavirus pandemic.Your participation shows that you have not become prisoners of circumstances, rather you have raised the bar above what is normally required of anyone.Your active attitude is not only to be appreciated but is also a key to social influence in the coming years,” said Bank of Finland Governor Olli Rehn in his opening remarks addressing the situation of students during the time of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Generation €uro Students’ Award tests students’ knowledge of monetary policy. The task of the teams is to prepare and present a proposal for an interest rate decision of the Governing Council of the ECB and other possible monetary policy actions. The competition is organised each year in the euro area, and is open to students aged 16–19.
The first round of the competition consisted of a web quiz.In the second round, the teams performed an analysis task, which was scored by the competition jury. The top three teams qualified for the final.
