Ålands lyceum won the Generation €uro Students’ Award monetary policy competition

A team from Ålands lyceum has won the Finnish final of the Generation €uro Students’ Award.The other finalists came from Etelä-Tapiola lukio and Kuopion klassillinen lukio. The final was held as a remote event on 14 April 2021.The award-winning team was selected by a jury composed of Bank of Finland experts, chaired by Head of Research Esa Jokivuolle.
The winning team Victor Byman, Alva Kahnberg Aaron Nordberd and Noel Rönnberg and the teacher Anders Casén who tutored the team will have the opportunity to meet European Central Bank management in a virtual event in May.The two other teams that qualified for the finals were awarded book gift vouchers.
“Along with the elderly, young people have been among the biggest victims of the coronavirus pandemic.Your participation shows that you have not become prisoners of circumstances, rather you have raised the bar above what is normally required of anyone.Your active attitude is not only to be appreciated but is also a key to social influence in the coming years,” said Bank of Finland Governor Olli Rehn in his opening remarks addressing the situation of students during the time of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Generation €uro Students’ Award tests students’ knowledge of monetary policy.The task of the teams is to prepare and present a proposal for an interest rate decision of the Governing Council of the ECB and other possible monetary policy actions.The competition is organised each year in the euro area, and is open to students aged 16–19.
The first round of the competition consisted of a web quiz.In the second round, the teams performed an analysis task, which was scored by the competition jury.The top three teams qualified for the final.

De finländska företagen lyfte i januari–april 2026 mindre lån än under samma tid 2025. Företagen lyfte emellertid i april 2026 mer lån än vid motsvarande tidpunkt ett år tidigare. Finnish non-financial corporations drew down a smaller volume of loans in January–April 2026 than in the same period in 2025. However, in April 2026 non-financial corporations drew down more loans than in the corresponding period a year earlier. The average interest rate on new corporate loans rose slightly from a year earlier in April. New corporate loans were drawn down at an average interest rate of 4.07% in April. The corporate loan stock stood at EUR 63.5 billion in April 2026.
