The coverage of DNA’s 5G network includes already over 53% of Finnish residences. This means that nearly three million people live in the network coverage area, which includes a total of 124 different towns. The towns most recently connected to the network are Alavus, Hämeenkyrö and Kauhajoki. With regional extensions and an improved range of 5G devices, the popularity of 5G services is also constantly growing.

  • In Alavus, 5G coverage has now been built in the town centre, that is, in the area surrounding the northern part of Lake Alavudenjärvi.
  • In Hämeenkyrö, 5G coverage extends from the north of the built-up Kyröskoski area across the Puronsuu area, with Pappilanmetsä being the southern limit.
  • In Kauhajoki, 5G covers the southern parts of the town centre and the nearest residential areas south of the town centre.

“It is great that we can now also offer DNA’s modern 5G services to the residents of Alavus, Hämeenkyrö and Kauhajoki. On a broader perspective, it is already more likely that a residence in Finland is covered by 5G than this not being the case. The share of mobile data transferred on the 5G network has almost quadrupled during this year," says DNA’s Jarkko Laari, VP, Radio Networks.

The sales of 5G mobile subscriptions have clearly accelerated during this year, which is also reflected in the increased sales volumes of 5G phones. Last year, DNA's TOP 15 list of best-selling phones included only three 5G models, whereas now there were only three 4G phones left on the list in this year’s October. The rapid development of network coverage has also been reflected in the growing popularity of fixed Home 5G subscriptions.

DNA's 5G network will be expanded and the existing network continuously extended in various parts of Finland. In Eastern and Northern Finland, the network is being built by Suomen Yhteisverkko Oy, which is a company jointly owned by DNA Plc and Telia Finland Oyj and which is currently building a comprehensive 5G network in Oulu, Kuopio and Savonlinna.

DNA continuously monitors the usage volumes and capacity adequacy of its mobile network. Based on the statistics, the network is renewed driven by needs. This means that older base stations will be replaced in locations where the need for additional transfer rates or capacity is the greatest. With new base station technology, 4G transfer rates and user experience will also improve.

DNA's 5G services can already be used in the following 124 towns:

Akaa, Alajärvi, Alavus, Asikkala, Askola, Aura, Espoo, Eura, Eurajoki, Forssa, Haapavesi, Hanko, Harjavalta, Hattula, Hausjärvi, Heinola, Helsinki, Hollola, Hyvinkää, Hämeenkyrö, Hämeenlinna, Ii, Ikaalinen, Ilmajoki, Inari, Isokyrö, Janakkala, Joensuu, Jokioinen, Joroinen, Juupajoki, Jyväskylä, Jämsä, Järvenpää, Kaarina, Kangasala, Kankaanpää, Karkkila, Kaskinen, Kauhajoki, Kauhava, Kauniainen, Kerava, Kirkkonummi, Kittilä, Kokemäki, Kokkola, Kolari, Kouvola, Kristiinankaupunki, Kruunupyy, Kuopio, Kurikka, Kuusamo, Kärkölä, Lahti, Laihia, Lapua, Laukaa, Lempäälä, Leppävirta, Lieto, Liminka, Lohja, Loimaa, Masku, Merikarvia, Muhos, Mäntsälä, Naantali, Nakkila, Nivala, Nokia, Nurmijärvi, Orimattila, Orivesi, Oulu, Padasjoki, Paimio, Parainen, Pedersöre, Pertunmaa, Pieksämäki, Pietarsaari, Pirkkala, Pori, Porvoo, Punkalaidun, Pyhäjoki, Pälkäne, Pöytyä, Raahe, Raasepori, Raisio, Rauma, Riihimäki, Rusko, Saarijärvi, Salo, Sastamala, Savonlinna, Seinäjoki, Siilinjärvi, Sipoo, Siuntio, Somero, Suonenjoki, Sysmä, Säkylä, Tampere, Teuva, Turku, Tuusula, Ulvila, Uusikaupunki, Vaasa, Valkeakoski, Vantaa, Vesilahti, Varkaus, Vihti, Ylivieska, Ylöjärvi and Äänekoski.

Mökkikausi on monelle myös etätyö-, suoratoisto- ja yhteydenpitokautta, jolloin toimivan nettiyhteyden merkitys korostuu.
