DNA’s 5G reaches almost three million Finns in 124 different towns – with Alavus, Hämeenkyrö and Kauhajoki now included

- In Alavus, 5G coverage has now been built in the town centre, that is, in the area surrounding the northern part of Lake Alavudenjärvi.
- In Hämeenkyrö, 5G coverage extends from the north of the built-up Kyröskoski area across the Puronsuu area, with Pappilanmetsä being the southern limit.
- In Kauhajoki, 5G covers the southern parts of the town centre and the nearest residential areas south of the town centre.
“It is great that we can now also offer DNA’s modern 5G services to the residents of Alavus, Hämeenkyrö and Kauhajoki. On a broader perspective, it is already more likely that a residence in Finland is covered by 5G than this not being the case. The share of mobile data transferred on the 5G network has almost quadrupled during this year," says DNA’s Jarkko Laari, VP, Radio Networks.
The sales of 5G mobile subscriptions have clearly accelerated during this year, which is also reflected in the increased sales volumes of 5G phones. Last year, DNA's TOP 15 list of best-selling phones included only three 5G models, whereas now there were only three 4G phones left on the list in this year’s October. The rapid development of network coverage has also been reflected in the growing popularity of fixed Home 5G subscriptions.
DNA's 5G network will be expanded and the existing network continuously extended in various parts of Finland. In Eastern and Northern Finland, the network is being built by Suomen Yhteisverkko Oy, which is a company jointly owned by DNA Plc and Telia Finland Oyj and which is currently building a comprehensive 5G network in Oulu, Kuopio and Savonlinna.
DNA continuously monitors the usage volumes and capacity adequacy of its mobile network. Based on the statistics, the network is renewed driven by needs. This means that older base stations will be replaced in locations where the need for additional transfer rates or capacity is the greatest. With new base station technology, 4G transfer rates and user experience will also improve.
DNA's 5G services can already be used in the following 124 towns:
Akaa, Alajärvi, Alavus, Asikkala, Askola, Aura, Espoo, Eura, Eurajoki, Forssa, Haapavesi, Hanko, Harjavalta, Hattula, Hausjärvi, Heinola, Helsinki, Hollola, Hyvinkää, Hämeenkyrö, Hämeenlinna, Ii, Ikaalinen, Ilmajoki, Inari, Isokyrö, Janakkala, Joensuu, Jokioinen, Joroinen, Juupajoki, Jyväskylä, Jämsä, Järvenpää, Kaarina, Kangasala, Kankaanpää, Karkkila, Kaskinen, Kauhajoki, Kauhava, Kauniainen, Kerava, Kirkkonummi, Kittilä, Kokemäki, Kokkola, Kolari, Kouvola, Kristiinankaupunki, Kruunupyy, Kuopio, Kurikka, Kuusamo, Kärkölä, Lahti, Laihia, Lapua, Laukaa, Lempäälä, Leppävirta, Lieto, Liminka, Lohja, Loimaa, Masku, Merikarvia, Muhos, Mäntsälä, Naantali, Nakkila, Nivala, Nokia, Nurmijärvi, Orimattila, Orivesi, Oulu, Padasjoki, Paimio, Parainen, Pedersöre, Pertunmaa, Pieksämäki, Pietarsaari, Pirkkala, Pori, Porvoo, Punkalaidun, Pyhäjoki, Pälkäne, Pöytyä, Raahe, Raasepori, Raisio, Rauma, Riihimäki, Rusko, Saarijärvi, Salo, Sastamala, Savonlinna, Seinäjoki, Siilinjärvi, Sipoo, Siuntio, Somero, Suonenjoki, Sysmä, Säkylä, Tampere, Teuva, Turku, Tuusula, Ulvila, Uusikaupunki, Vaasa, Valkeakoski, Vantaa, Vesilahti, Varkaus, Vihti, Ylivieska, Ylöjärvi and Äänekoski.

Koulujen kännykkäkielto näkyy mobiiliverkossa: Datamäärät laskeneet paikoin merkittävästi, mutta koulukohtainen vaihtelu on suurta14.10.2025 08:30:00 EEST | Tiedote
Suomessa on elokuusta 2025 alkaen ollut voimassa lakiin perustuva kännykkäkielto peruskoulun oppitunneilla. Oppilaiden mobiililaitteiden käyttö on kielletty oppituntien aikana ilman opettajan lupaa, ja tällöinkin lähinnä opetukseen tai terveydenhoitoon liittyvissä asioissa. DNA:n tekemä vertailu kouluja palvelevien mobiilitukiasemien kautta kulkevan datan määrässä osoittaa, että kännykän käyttö kouluissa vaikuttaa pääosin vähentyneen –, joidenkin koulujen alueilla jopa merkittävästi.
The mobile phone ban in schools can be seen in the mobile network: Data usage has decreased significantly in some areas, but school-specific variation is huge14.10.2025 08:30:00 EEST | Press release
Since August 2025, a law-based mobile phone ban has been in effect during primary school lessons in Finland. Students are prohibited from using mobile devices during lessons without the teacher’s permission, and even then, only for educational or healthcare-related purposes. A comparison conducted by DNA on the amount of data passing through mobile base stations serving schools indicates that mobile phone use in schools has generally decreased – in some school areas even significantly.
Syyslomareissu edessä? Muista nämä vinkit netinkäytöstä ulkomailla10.10.2025 09:00:00 EEST | Tiedote
Syysloma saa monet suomalaiset suuntaamaan ulkomaille, ja mukana reissussa kulkee useimmiten älypuhelin. Kotimaiset puhelinliittymät toimivat ulkomailla paikallisen operaattorin verkossa verkkovierailun eli roamingin avulla. DNA:n mobiililiiketoiminnan johtaja Mikko Valtonen listasi muutamia huomioita matkailijoille huolettoman netinkäytön varmistamiseksi.
Autumn holiday trip coming up? Remember these tips for using mobile data abroad10.10.2025 09:00:00 EEST | Press release

Mikko Valtonen, Vice President of Mobile Business at DNA, listed a few tips to help travelers use mobile data worry-free.
Tutkimus: Valtiolliset toimijat vasta toiseksi suurin kyberturvallisuuden huolenaihe suomalaisyrityksille8.10.2025 10:00:00 EEST | Tiedote
DNA:n teettämän tuoreen tietoturvatutkimuksen* mukaan 70 prosenttia Suomessa toimivien yritysten ICT-päättäjistä on huolissaan kyberturvallisuudesta. Konkreettisessa varautumisessa on yrityksillä kuitenkin petrattavaa, sillä vain reilu neljännes harjoittelee kyberkriisitilanteita ja toiminnan palauttamista. Merkittävimpänä huolenaiheena pidetään yhä tietojen joutumista vääriin käsiin. Valtiollisiin toimijoihin kohdistuvan huolen osuus on laskenut hieman edellisvuodesta, mutta niihin liittyvä uhkakuva nähdään edelleen vasta toiseksi suurimpana. Tietoturvaan tehtävät investoinnit ovat puolestaan edelleen kasvussa.
