Invitation to press conference: Immigration in the year 2020 and outlooks for the future
How did the coronavirus affect immigration in 2020? How will work-related immigration be made more fluent during the year 2021? How are the relocations of asylum seekers from the Mediterranean proceeding?
Time: Wednesday 20 January at 10.00–11.00
Place: Teams
During the press conference, the immigration statistics for the year 2020 will be published, and Jari Kähkönen, Director General, will recount what is expected with regard to immigration and the Finnish Immigration Service this year.
In addition to this, Antti Lehtinen, Director of the Asylum Unit, will tell about the asylum seeker situation, and Pauliina Helminen, Head of Branch at the Permit and Nationality Unit, will recount the effects of the coronavirus on immigration. The event will be hosted by Klaus Kaartinen, Director of Communications.

The press conference is held in Finnish. The media may pose questions also in Swedish and English.

A reception centre in Espoo to be closed down, the capacity of a reception centre in Vantaa to be reduced5.1.2021 14:07:52 EET | Press release
The Finnish Immigration Service terminates its contract with the reception centre in Nihtisilta and reduces the number of accommodation places in the reception centre at Robert Huberin tie. The accommodation capacity for asylum seekers will decrease by 525 places in total in the capital region.
