All Yle HD channels now available via DNA's terrestrial network

Share
Yle's four HD channels will be available via DNA's terrestrial network from today, 3 March. The new channels are Yle Fem HD and, now available for the first time for terrestrial network viewers, Yle Teema HD. DNA's HD terrestrial network covers approximately 85 per cent of Finland's households. Yle and DNA signed a channel distribution agreement on 26 February.

From today, Yle's all four HD channels can be received via DNA's HD terrestrial network. Yle Teema HD (channel number 27) is a completely new and much-awaited addition to terrestrial distribution, and thanks to DNA, Yle Fem HD (25) will see a boost in coverage. The channels will be added to DNA's current offering of Yle HD on the terrestrial network, Yle TV1 HD (21) and Yle TV2 HD (22).

"DNA's plan is to offer great TV content with high viewing quality to as many TV viewers as possible. Yle's HD channels are a great example of this, and we are extremely pleased to have them as part of our channel range," said Jarno Haikonen, Vice President, Entertainment Business, DNA.

"Yle is constantly expanding its offering of full high-definition content. Thanks to advances in studio technology, nearly all TV programmes produced by Yle will be of HD quality this year. Purchased programmes are always acquired in the best possible quality," said Janne Yli-Äyhö, Chief Operations Officer, Yle.

The new terrestrial TV network is based on the capacity of two terrestrial networks. DNA's terrestrial network is largely focused on HD channels. Homes with terrestrial network coverage can enjoy the full range of channels, including HD, when they install two antennas: an UHF antenna pointing to Digita's network and a VHF (DNA HD) antenna pointing to DNA's network. Approximately 85 per cent of Finns are covered by DNA's terrestrial network.

DNA's goal is to match the terrestrial network channel offering with that of the cable network. With the addition of Yle's new HD channels, DNA's HD terrestrial network viewers will receive 14 HD channels.

DNA provides Yle's HD channels unencrypted and free of charge. Viewers will not require a TV card to watch the channels on DNA's network. To receive the channels, viewers will need a VHF (DNA HD) antenna tuned to DNA's terrestrial network and a modern, Antenna Ready HD receiver.
