DNA makes a long-standing commitment in Finnish wind power - significant commitment for Finnish renewable energy

For DNA, commitment to green energy is one the most important steps of the path toward net zero emissions.
”Our sector provides good services also to assist in restraining climate change but electricity will always play a critical role in their production. Technological development has already reduced the relative electricity consumption of data transfer per a transferred kilobyte but as digitalisation advances more electricity will be needed. Because of that, clean energy is a very high priority in our climate work,” says Jaakko Happo, VP Treasury and Administration at DNA.
DNA’s partner in the agreement is Statkraft, an internationally operating energy company and, at the moment, the largest producer of renewable energy in Europe. DNA has agreed with Statkraft that wind power will be procured from the Palokangas wind park owned by Exilion in Ii. 85 GWh of the plant’s production will be supplied to DNA through the agreement annually. The scope of the electricity production is highlighted by the fact that one GWh is enough for the electricity consumption of some 50 detached houses heated by electricity*.
”With this agreement we will be able to participate in building renewable energy capacity in Finland, which is important to us as a driver of sustainability. At the same time we safeguard DNA’s own renewable energy procurement in the long-term from a domestic source,” says Jaakko Happo.
“With this agreement, we support DNA in securing their energy needs as well as achieving their climate targets based on renewable energy from a new wind farm under development in Finland. It illustrates Statkraft’s role in the market where we match the needs of power producers and consumers to find profitable, risk-reducing, and sustainable solutions,” says Arne Wist, Vice President Nordic Origination at Statkraft.
DNA has already earlier ensured green energy supplies with Guarantees of Origin.
This power purchase agreement contributes to DNA’s ambitious climate target. Telenor Group has committed to setting a net zero target according to the SBTi standard.
