Changes to maternity grant application process in OmaKela

As of 14 December 2024, applications for a maternity grant in OmaKela are made using the online application form Vanhempainetuudet. You can apply for pregnancy allowance, special pregnancy allowance and parental allowance on the same application form. It is also possible to apply for partial parental allowance. You can also use the same application form to turn over parental allowance days to someone else or to withdraw a decision to turn over parental allowance days. You can apply for more than one benefit at once or you can apply for each benefit separately.

The maternity grant is granted either in the form of a maternity package or a tax-free one-off payment of EUR 170. You can apply for a maternity grant only once for each child. The gender of the person applying for the maternity grant does not matter. What is important is the applicant’s relationship with the child: only a birthing parent or an adoptive parent can apply for a maternity grant.

The new application was introduced on 14 December 2024. You can access the new application in OmaKela by either selecting Vanhempainetuudet – tee hakemus or Äitiysavustus – tee hakemus. Both links lead to the same application. You will find the links in the menu Lapsiperheet.
