28.11.2025 10:40:00 EET | Digi- ja väestötietovirasto | Press release
The number of service locations of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV) will change from 1 December. The Agency will close the Mikkeli service location and offer remote service going forward. The remote service will make it possible to receive personal advice and guidance even when the customer and the customer adviser are in different cities.

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency has provided remote service in Mikkeli since 1 July 2025. Remote service is available on Thursdays from 9:00 to 12:00 at the service point Mikkeli at Raatihuoneenkatu 6. An appointment for remote service is booked in advance at the service point or via the telephone service.
The transition to remote service and the change in the service location network are based on central government savings and the increasing use of e-services. For example, in 2024, around 94 per cent of service use took place through channels other than visiting. The service locations in Hämeenlinna, Kajaani, Kokkola, Kouvola and Seinäjoki will transition to remote service at the same time.
You can visit the Digital and Population Data Services Agency in person in Helsinki, Joensuu, Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Lahti, Lappeenranta, Oulu, Pori, Rovaniemi, Tampere, Turku and Vaasa. The service locations are mainly open to those who have booked an appointment. Appointments for personal visits are booked in advance.
In remote service, the customer and the customer adviser meet via video connection
If necessary, the customer can be scheduled for remote service via telephone services when the customer needs personal advice or guidance. In practice, remote service means that the customer comes to the remote service point and establishes a video connection to an expert from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. The remote service is free of charge and is only available by appointment.
The remote service will make it possible to receive personal advice and guidance. You cannot print or scan forms or documents at the service point. You also cannot submit any forms or documents at the service point.
Few things require a visit to the agency
The Digital and Population Data Services Agency provides services nationwide, mainly online or by telephone. Only certain things require a visit to Agency’s service locations. The services that require a visit in person are marriage, certain services of the notary public, and the registration of foreigners. You may visit and book an appointment to the most suitable service location for you, regardless of where you live. In addition, the Agency continues to officiate marriages around Finland.
